We are delighted that January 2023 will see the return of our YFP Creative Development Programme for aspiring young writers and writer-directors. Participants will learn the fundamentals of story structure and writing for the screen from industry professionals, as well as receive guidance on specific areas such as writing effective synopses and treatments.
The programme is FREE and will involve four sessions (some of which will be online) and some independent work developing your own film treatment. If you are part of the Young Film Programmers Network but are also interested in filmmaking, this is the programme for you!
“I just wanted to say a massive thank you for organising the whole experience; as someone without a background or formal training in film, it was amazing that I got the opportunity to be part of the programme and hear from such talented people.
The workshops have also given me more confidence to pursue my ideas, which was somewhat lacking before! Thanks a million for making it happen, and I hope you’re able to run it again in future.”
– Annabel Jackson, 2022 Creative Development Programme Participant
With support from BFI Film Academy using funds from the National Lottery, the Young Film Programmers (South East) Network aims to increase access to and appreciation of cultural cinema among 16-25-year olds across the South East of England, and encourage a greater awareness of strategic progression routes for young people within the industry.

Participation in the YFP Creative Development Programme is free and open to all Young Film Programmers across the YFP (South East) Network. Sessions will be held online and in-person from January – March 2023, with participants meeting regularly to collaboratively develop their work and individual creative portfolios. If you are unsure about your eligibility to apply, please contact Julia Andrews-Clifford.
