Take me to:
ProgrammeMany executives in distribution, international sales and exhibition find themselves in management positions without having management training. Ours is an industry run on passion, and those who emerge as leaders have rarely been offered professional management training.
Until now…
Delivered in partnership by Film Distributors’ Association (FDA) and the Independent Cinema Office (ICO), with the support of Creative Skillset, Elevate is a unique mid-level cross-sector training programme offering management skills and professional coaching for tomorrow’s film distribution, international sales and exhibition leaders.
What does the programme cover?
Elevate is a training experience, designed to embed learning and accelerate sustainable personal development through a holistic approach, expert support and peer-to-peer learning. 14 smart, motivated and ambitious managers will benefit from this bespoke 6-month training experience, comprising:
- Four modules of management skills workshops: Managing People, Time Management, Presentation Skills and Negotiation;
- Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI): This self-awareness questionnaire measures psychological preferences in how people perceive the world and make decisions and can help you deepen your self-awareness, become a better leader/manager or improve your relationships;
- Action learning: regular group meetings to find ways of understanding and solving issues. The sessions are structured to give everyone the chance to air their individual challenges.
- Individual coaching sessions and peer networking.
Participants will gain:
- A greater ability to inspire and manage teams (including external clients and suppliers);
- Improved confidence and renewed motivation in their work
- A wider cross-sector network of contacts to help them to grow sustainable businesses;
- A clear set of individual career aims and objectives and ability to articulate their professional development plan.
Who is it for?
We will bring together a mix of 14 smart, motivated and ambitious sales agents, distributors and exhibitors working in managerial positions within film organisations. Roles might include Sales, Distribution Acquisitions, Marketing, Publicity, Finance, Venue Management, Audience Development, Education and Outreach Managers. We also welcome applications from entrepreneurs running exhibition enterprises. Successful applicants will:
- Want to grow or step up their position within their organisation;
- Be new to or have recently entered a management position (0-2 years);
- Have a proven track record in the film industry;
- Show commitment to their chosen career path;
- Understand how they may inform the management culture of their organisation, specific sector and wider industry;
- A clear set of individual career aims and objectives and ability to articulate their professional development plan.
Who are the trainers?
Elevate is taught by a team of established experts in business training who have experience working in the film industry. The programme will be overseen by Programme Director, Julia Short, Film Industry Consultant.
