The ICO and LUX are excited to announce a new series of artists’ film commissions, The Artists Cinema 2016 (following its previous editions in 2006 & 2010), a unique project which brings leading visual artists’ work into cinemas in a subversive and playful way, to screen before a diverse and large-scale audience.
You can now watch the films online on LUX Moving Image’s LuxPlayer.
The new Artists Cinema commissions were launched at Tate Britain at a special preview attended by the artists on 8 February 2016.
The 2006 & 2010 editions of the project screened in front of widely released films such as Borat, Casino Royale, Notes on a Scandal, The Lives of Others and Pan’s Labyrinth (2006) and Inception, Knight & Day, The Girl Who Played with Fire, Winter’s Bone and Sex and the City II (2010); reaching a collective audience of over 175,000 people in cinemas UK wide.
The five commissioned films for The Artists Cinema 2016 are: Gabriel Abrantes (A Brief History of Princess X), Dora Garcia (El helicóptero), Naeem Mohaiemen (Abu Ammar is Coming), Margaret Salmon (Bird) and Corin Sworn with Tony Romano (The Coat).
