The ICO is proud to present Europe Loves Cinema, a new tour in collaboration with MEDIA.
Over the past 20 years the EU’s MEDIA Programme has supported thousands of European films in finding an audience outside their country of origin. To celebrate this anniversary year, MEDIA Desk UK has partnered with the ICO to bring 20 of the “greatest hits” back to the big screen.
Europe Loves Cinema recalls an abundant selection of European films that have received critical acclaim and festival awards as well as box office success.
The tour includes films by Europe’s greatest directors – the heavy-weights: Pedro Almodóvar, Michael Haneke and Roman Polanski; and the more edgy auteurs Fatih Akin or Mathieu Kassovitz; all this not forgetting British directors such as Ken Loach and Shane Meadows.
European acting talent shines through the programme: from Audrey Tautou and Juliette Binoche to Bruno Ganz and Cillian Murphy.
In short, the season offers a glimpse at Europe’s best in the last 20 years. And the anniversary of the MEDIA Programme is a great reason to bring these films back to life on the big screen.
MEDIA Desk have filmed a series of interviews with famous filmmakers – including Michael Radford, Jeremy Thomas, Stephen Woolley & Wim Wenders – asking about how they’ve been influenced by European cinema. These interviews are designed to be shown before screenings of any of the below films. Please let us know if you are interested in screening one of these interviews alongside any of the Europes Loves Cinema films. Here is a glimpse of some of the interviews.
