Senior Projectionist/Cinema Co-ordinator

Midlands Arts Centre is seeking a Senior Projectionist to be responsible for the delivery of consistent and high-quality technical services relating to screenings of film, video, digital media and related events and activities in the centre, and as needed through outreach or touring.
Key Responsibilities
Projection Duties
- Oversee and administer technical requirements for screenings and related activities and events at MAC.
- Carry out high quality projection of digital film and video.
- Download, prepare, and check digital content for exhibition.
- Ensure that the relevant adverts and trailers are included in the correct playlists and ensure that all trailers are correctly aligned with the BBFC certification of the film they precede.
- Prepare venues for film and video presentations, ensuring effective operation of sound, screen, and projection equipment.
- Ensure the conscientious and professional use of MAC’s equipment.
- Carry out the technical servicing of seminars, conferences, and meetings within the cinema and on occasion other areas at MAC.
Cinema Co-ordination
- Line management of core and variable hour Cinema Projectionists. This will include conducting reviews and/or appraisals.
- Create effective team schedules to ensure consistent and professional cinema operation.
- Technical management of Cinema screenings and events.
- Take charge of physical DCP deliveries and ensure that they are received and returned in good time.
- Ensure that the correct posters are placed outside the cinema to coincide with relevant screenings.
- Oversee conversion of various files to DCP for festivals and events.
Maintenance
- Ensure the safe operation, maintenance and repair of video, film, digital media, and projection equipment in MAC’s control and recommend when outside assistance may be required.
- Advise on the maintenance of MAC’s projection equipment and venues in order to avoid or minimise down time.
- Management of the relevant service contracts within the department. These include audio-visual equipment; digital cinema equipment; masking and auditorium seating.
Health and Safety
- Be responsible for Health & Safety within the cinema spaces. This will include:
- Risk identification and assessments
- Creating method statements for safe working practises
- Ensuring that electrical equipment is safe to use (PAT)
- Follow established safe working practices in the pursuance of duties and ensure that visiting organisations and technicians adhere to MAC’s Health and Safety policy.
Working with others
- Liaise with the Cinema Producer on screen media deliveries and onward transport, screenings, and staff schedules; with the Head of Customer Services on cinema hires and with Customer Service staff on public access to venues and running times.
- In association with the relevant producers and technicians, contribute to the preparation of equipment, materials and exhibits for screen based Visual Arts and Learning & Participation activities.
- Develop and maintain key contacts and good working relationships with a wide range of professionals, companies, and voluntary sector users of MAC’s facilities.
- On occasion provide liaison and technical assistance on behalf of MAC to external agencies.
General
- Keep up to date with technical advances and practices related to the job role.
- Ensure that the Centre works as an effective and welcoming base and that facilities and services are appropriately provided.
- Participate in training and development activities as required and to assist with the training and development of colleagues as appropriate.
- Undertake any other duties which may be required from this post.
