Pre-Selectors (Screening Comittee Members)

Sunrise Film Festival

Remote

Salary: Voluntary

Sunrise Film Festival is looking for enthusiastic and independent film-loving people to join their screening committee.

Pre-selectors will receive 10-15 films to watch, and personally critique via a scoring system and give written feedback on each film.

They are vital to helping us fairly create our submissions longlist, which ultimately will shape our final programme. This is an unpaid position, but in return for your time you’ll be invited to attend our festival.

Sunrise Film Festival is a film festival based in Lowestoft, that makes film accessible and proudly showcases independent films to audiences across overlooked communities. It was founded in 2021 and continues to be a vital platform for supporting unrepresented talent and engaging audiences with independent cinema.

Hours: One hour per week
Terms: Voluntary. The deadline for watching films is 24 May.

Why do we need a screening committee?

We ensure that each film has been viewed independently by at least four different screeners (this is you) to ensure each submission is treated fairly and to allow us to keep unconscious bias out of the process, which will subsequently shape our selected films to screen and a long list of nominees. Most importantly you are the first public eye to watch our submissions, which is invaluable to supporting our programming.

Feedback given by our screening committee members will be used to fairly choose what films are officially selected, and this year we’re excited to have opened up submissions with an international category.
