Berkhamsted
Salary: £37,374 - £44,163
The BFI is seeking a Paper Conservator to be part of the Heritage 2022 programme, working exclusively at the BFI National Archive.
Fixed Term Contract (Maternity Cover), September 2021 – January 2022
Heritage 2022 (H22) is a preservation-led programme to safeguard high-risk significant collections held by the BFI National Archive and the Regional and National Film Archives (RNAs) across the UK.
The role
We are looking for enthusiastic and confident candidates who have a degree in Conservation and previous experience in the conservation of works on paper within a gallery, library, archive or museum setting. A detailed understanding of works on paper, their requirements and conservation treatments is essential. You will also be expected to advise on the related photographic collections.
You will be responsible for leading on the development of paper conservation practices at the BFI and will undertake the stabilisation and treatment of works on paper, in order to prepare works for future digitisation. You will develop conservation documentation and workflows, and make recommendations to the overall paper conservation strategy of the BFI. You will provide training to colleagues where appropriate and contribute to core collections activities, in order to embed best practice across relevant departments at the BFI.
You will have the ability to think strategically about a large collection to identify priorities for large work packages, specifically digitisation. You will enjoy collaborative working and being part of a team and be a confident communicator.
We support diversity and inclusion, and as an organisation recognise that we need to address under representation within our teams. As such we strongly welcome and encourage applicants from our under-represented groups, both of non-white ethnicity and/or those who identify as D/deaf and disabled.
We guarantee a first interview to our under-represented groups who meet our minimum requirements. How we are doing, including our pay gaps and our commitment to Black Lives Matter can be found on our website.
The role is predominantly based at Berkhamsted, however, in response to the current Covid-19 pandemic all team members are currently working remotely from home until the foreseeable future.
You will enjoy benefits such as our pension scheme, excellent support for working parents, 28-33 days annual leave, tickets to BFI festivals and events plus many others.
