The National Library of Scotland is one of Scotland’s premier cultural institutions. It contains the nation’s memory: our collections document the influence of Scots at home and abroad across the centuries, while also reflecting the ideas and cultures of the world. The world-class collections contain books, manuscripts, journals, archives, music, film, sound and more, including vast and growing digital collections.
We are now seeking a Head of Moving Image and Sound Collections, to lead the Library’s operations at Kelvin Hall in Glasgow. This is a senior role, with critical responsibilities for collection development, preservation and access, building partnerships and reaching diverse audiences.
The Library’s collections and facilities in Glasgow are award-winning, and we are looking for a strong leader who will innovate and develop the moving image and sound collections. They will lead services for these collections, as well as the Library’s extensive digital collections.
The ideal candidate will have a demonstrable capacity to lead and inspire staff and the partners who work with us to open up the national collections to the public. They will have the necessary skills to manage complex and unique collections, and experience of delivering quality and innovative public services in a cultural and digital context.
This is a crucial and high-profile role which requires excellent team working, leadership and professionalism. The Library’s plans for the coming years are ambitious, and this role will help to shape the Library’s strategic capacity to build its collections and to open them up to reach people across Scotland and the world.
