The BFI is seeking a mid-weight Graphic Designer to design work in a range of settings, including print, digital, display and exhibition graphics, advertising, information pieces, presentations, and other communications collateral.
We operate a hybrid working model at the BFI. This role requires working a minimum of 2 days a week at our BFI Southbank hub in London for the first 6 months.

Key responsibilities
- To liaise closely with the Studio Manager and internal clients at the design stage to understand the design brief.
- To provide interpretation and interrogation of design briefs to ensure they are representative of the design work required by the client.
- To design a wide range of communications across brand identities and campaigns including brochures, leaflets, advertising, exhibition and display graphics, presentations, digital assets and other collateral.
- To produce brand-compliant design that will be attractive to the target user, has a logical navigation system and has all the visual features required.
- To adapt existing artwork to alternative layouts and formats based on the original creative concept.
- To decide on how images and other material will be selected and used for maximum design impact and manipulate accordingly to achieve the best results in reproduction.
- To provide multimedia design for e-marketing, online and other outputs when necessary.
- To keep abreast of available technical and systems improvements and make recommendations to improve efficiencies in the department.
We are looking for candidates who have:
- A degree or equivalent qualification in Graphic Design.
- At least 2-3 years’ experience as a mid-weight Graphic Designer in a similar role.
- An aptitude with Apple Macintosh systems and who possess demonstrable knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, particularly InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop, and complemented by a solid knowledge of Microsoft Office software (particularly Powerpoint).
- Experience of producing design for digital settings and a willingness to develop this skill base.
- A high level of retouching skills and a knowledge of repro and print production processes.
- The ability to interrogate and interpret a brief and translate it into compelling marketing communications outputs.
- Good understanding of layout, typography and editorial design.
- An understanding of brand and visual identity application across a wide array of digital and print assets, including large format and OOH.
- Proven graphic design skills and the ability to implement these in practical settings.
- Excellent time management and prioritisation skills and the ability to take responsibility and ownership of projects, seeing them through to completion and on deadline and to the highest standard.
- Good communication and collaborative skills and the ability to motivate and enthuse others.
