The Living Room Cinema Chipping Norton, a brand-new independent cinema opening in late Spring 2023 in the market town of Chipping Norton, is looking for a General Manager to join their team.
About The Living Room Cinema
Created by the team behind the highly successful and respected Living Room Cinema in Liphook, this local cinema will be a welcoming home from home at the heart of the community; a local cinema like you’ve never experienced before. We care about our surroundings, our environment, our experience and our people, but most of all we care about our guests.
The General Manager will be responsible for the over-all day to day running of the cinema, leading the team to ensure that first class customer service is delivered whilst key targets are met in line with our community focused values, complying with health and safety and legal requirements. In the run up to the cinema opening, they will work alongside the CEO and wider development team to make sure that all aspects of cinema development, recruitment and launch process are complete.

Role Responsibilities
Pre-Opening
Alongside the CEO and wider development team:
- Recruitment and induction of the front of house team and, alongside specialist training providers, make sure that all staff are sufficiently trained in all relevant areas
- All necessary FOH staff contracts, policies, procedures and manuals are produced
- All FOH staff are correctly set up on payroll and enrolled in appropriate pension schemes
- All IT infrastructure is in place and tested
- All stock contracts are in place and initial orders are placed
- Make sure that all external contracts – waste disposal, pest management etc – are in place
- Alongside the CEO, Board of Directors and Marketing Executive, develop and execute a launch strategy for the cinema to encompass social, press and print, and physical events for friends & family opening, shareholder events and the grand opening
- Any other ad-hoc duties necessary for the opening of the cinema
Post-Opening
- Take over-all responsibility for all aspects of the running of the venue ensuring that all health and safety, legal, financial and licencing requirements are complied with at all times
- Delegate tasks and organise the team in a fast-paced environment
- Ensure that first rate customer service is delivered at all times, in particular to key stakeholders such as founder members and local based – shareholders
- Create a welcoming environment for customers and a working culture in which staff are engaged, motivated, supported and stimulated
- Line-manage all Front of House staff, providing on-going training, coaching and development as required and recruiting for replacement staff when required
- Ensuring that all key performance metrics are achieved in line with budget
- Stock and cost control of F&B items
- Oversee events and private hires facilitated by the events team and Front of House manager to ensure that they are delivered to the highest possible standard
- Liaise with the CEO and any external contractors as required regarding to ongoing maintenance and repair of the cinema building and the equipment within it
- Analyse performance to constantly be able to optimise admissions and F&B revenue, and to contribute towards future budgeting processes
- Be responsible for full compliance with audits
- Support the Marketing Executive and the CEO in establishing the cinema as a community asset and to develop relationships with local press and partners
- Supporting the CEO, deputise on key critical decisions regarding the business when required
Person Specification
- Experience in a similar general management role, preferably within the cinema sector
- Financially astute with experience of working towards targets and to budgets
- Personable and a natural leader, as well as an effective communicator
- Knowledge of the local area, population, and businesses. A real passion for integrating the cinema into the heart of the community
- Enjoys taking initiative and introducing new and creative concepts to a venue
- Self-motivated and thrives on having autonomy. Empowered to and has the confidence to make key decisions independently
- Naturally personable and an ambassador for the venue
- Technology literate
- The willingness to work flexible hours and shifts to suit the needs of the business
- Passionate about cinema, films and events
