The Castle Cinema is seeking a new Finance Officer to play a central role in maintaining the financial health of the venue.

Role responsibilities
Efficient finance & accounting operations
- Oversee accounts payable, receivable, and bank reconciliations
- Prepare weekly payment runs for approval by the Directors
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date bookkeeping in Dext and Xero
- Raise invoices for venue hires and ensure timely payments
- Assist with payroll, starter forms, and manage holiday/sick accruals
- Assist with financial aspects of stock and sales management
- Reconcile daily cash reports from Duty Managers
- Undertake month-end processes, including account reconciliations and verifications
Accurate financial reporting, forecasting & compliance
- Produce regular & ad-hoc financial reports
- Assist with monitoring cash flow and financial planning
- Assist with annual budgeting and forecasting
- Ensure adherence to relevant laws and regulations
- Ensure compliance with VAT rules and assist in preparing quarterly VAT returns
- Working with external accountants on annual accounts & corp tax return
Effective communication, collaboration & systems
- Manage the finance email inbox and take timely, appropriate action
- Collaborate effectively with other departments to provide financial guidance & support decision-making
- Resolve queries with team members, suppliers, and customers promptly
- Provide support in liaising with external accountants
- Enhance financial processes and systems to improve accuracy, efficiency, and compliance
- Embrace new systems, technologies, AI, and automation to streamline operations and enhance productivity
Person specifications
- Training or education in finance and accounting
- Strong financial literacy, with knowledge of bookkeeping and payroll
- Experience with financial software packages, ideally Xero
- Meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to work accurately at pace
- Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
- Confident IT skills, including proficiency in Gsuite and spreadsheets
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Focused on improving systems to reduce manual tasks and repetitive data entry
- Committed to leveraging AI and automation for efficient, innovative, and accurate financial operations
- Desire to grow with the role
