Filmhouse (Edinburgh) Ltd is seeking a Cinema Manager to ensure that every customer has a fantastic experience visiting the cinema.

Managing the Front of House team across box office, usher and stage management functions, the CM is responsible for all aspects of the ticket sale process and customer care, overseeing both box office systems and a team of people capable of delivering a superb audience journey. This journey – not simply watching a film, but the entire experience of engaging with the venue – is critical to the success of Filmhouse, and the Cinema Manager is a key champion for shaping and improving this journey, from the moment a customer books a ticket to the moment they go home.

Role responsibilities
  • Manage the Front of House team.
  • Ensure a smooth, efficient and friendly box office operation.
  • Ensure efficient and effective ushering, and stage management at live shows.
  • Ensure a high level of customer care.
  • Lead on management of the Point-of-Sale system, ensuring it is used to maximum effect.
  • Dovetail with programming and marketing to support the planning and promotion of upcoming screenings and events; including by overseeing core workflows to get the programme on sale.
    Collaborate closely with the Café-bar manager to ensure a seamless and excellent experience for all customers who engage both with the programme and the F&B offer.
  • Promote and support diversity and inclusion in all activities.
Person specifications

Essential

  • At least 2 years’ experience in a cinema management role.
  • Experience running cinema operations at a venue that presents film festival screenings and production-heavy live events.
  • Proven experience of effectively managing and leading a front of house team.
  • Proven proficiency with Point-of-Sale systems.
  • Experience of delivering front of house and floor management support for live events.
  • Impeccable customer care.
  • A thorough understanding of issues around accessibility and inclusion, and how these affect both customers and staff.
  • An understanding of cinema membership offers.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across, and with, different internal departments and personnel.
  • Unflagging good spirits.

Desirable

  • Experience of event management.
  • Experience of guest management / hospitality.
  • Experience of addressing building maintenance issues.
  • Willingness to undertake a wide range of work and to learn new skills on the job so as to support the organisation in a time of rapid change and growth.
  • A strong interest in film.
