The BFI are seeking an Acquisitions Manager to join their Distribution & Programming Operations team on a fixed term basis for 6 months.
Fixed Term for 6 months; December 2022 start date.
We are seeking an Acquisitions Manager to join the Distribution & Programming Operations team on a fixed term basis for 6 months. Reporting to the Head of Distribution & Programme Operations, and working across both Distribution and DVD, you will identify and enact new opportunities in terms of the acquisition of contemporary titles and re-releases in the effective pursuit of our cultural and financial aims, in addition to working with the Rights & Contract Manager to facilitate an effective rights and materials renewal programme.
Key responsibilities include:
- To build collaborative relationships with filmmakers, UK and international rights holders, TV companies and sales agents to negotiate rights specifically for BFI Distribution and DVD to ensure a catalogue of great breadth, cultural ambition and of the highest possible technical standard that reflects and contributes to the BFI’s Cultural Programme and that will meet the BFI’s commercial targets.
- To maintain a high level of awareness of developments in film and moving image culture in order to develop strategic interventions in distribution and DVD releasing.
- To form international partnerships for the acquisition of rights and co-distribution of materials including close liaison with foreign publishers ensuring that where possible costs are shared.
We are looking for candidates who have:
- Educated to degree level or equivalent
- Demonstrable experience in Distribution Acquisitions
- Authoritative knowledge of world cinema, both historical and contemporary, and proven ability to research titles and materials with an emphasis on British and World arthouse/classic Hollywood
- Demonstrable experience of research and knowledge of available research resources
- Excellent knowledge of relevant areas of legal practice, including copyright law
