Ben Hardy, Jason Patel, Hannah Onslow, Nisha Nayar
Co-written and directed by Sally El Hosaini (My Brother the Devil, The Swimmers) and James Krishna Floyd in his debut, Unicorns stars Ben Hardy and Jason Patel as two people with an undeniable connection, who might become lovers if they can bridge their very different worlds.
A hard-working single father, Luke (Hardy) has grown accustomed to settling for fleeting relationships on the rare occasions he’s alone. Then, in an underground club, he meets Aysha (Patel). They’re immediately attracted to each other, but Luke is taken aback when he finds out Aysha is a femme drag queen, not the cis woman he thought. As they spend time together working, though, and as Aysha introduces Luke to more of her world and they each navigate different challenges in their personal lives, they question whether or not their relationship can exist outside traditional labels.
A touching, visually daring romance and portrait of modern masculinity, Unicorns depicts the thrill of desire, the weight of familial and cultural expectations, and the transformative power of being seen for who you really are.
