Jake Gyllenhaal (Nightcrawler, Brokeback Mountain) stars in Demolition, the latest from Jean-Marc Vallée, director of Dallas Buyers Club and Wild, selected to open Toronto this year.
A successful investment banker, Davis (Gyllenhaal) struggles after losing his wife in a tragic car crash. Finding it impossible to make sense of his loss and to grieve in a satisfactory way, he starts to unravel, despite pressure from his father-in-law Phil (Chris Cooper).
But when – full of misdirected anger – he writes a complaint to a vending machine company, it catches the attention of customer service rep Karen (Naomi Watts) and inspires an unlikely connection. Both physically and emotionally demolishing the life he once had, Davis starts to rebuild himself and his world from the inside out.
