Car Wash is the classic, zany comedy about the staff and patrons of De Luxe Car Wash. As Roger Ebert describes it, the film is ‘a dizzying, nonstop kaleidoscope of cars, soul music, characters, crises, crazy kids on skateboards, hookers, television preachers and lots of suds and hot wax.’
Featuring a classic disco soundtrack (including the classic Rose Royce title track), Car Wash is a hilarious snapshot of the care-free seventies. Yet there’s social commentary aplenty, from Abdullah (Bill Duke), the Muslim revolutionary to Lindy, praised by queer cinema historian Vito Russo for its progressive depiction of a Black gay man.
