Viggo Mortensen (Eastern Promises, The Road) stars as an idealistic father raising his children away from contemporary civilisation in the charming, eccentric Captain Fantastic from actor/director Matt Ross.
In the lush wilderness of the Pacific Northwest, Ben (Mortensen) lives with his six children in Thoreau-esque seclusion, giving them a rigorous physical and intellectual education of his own design, until a family crisis forces him to re-enter the world. Exposing his children to a new way of life presents challenges for them all, and Ben must reassess his idea of what it means to be a parent.
Reminiscent of Little Miss Sunshine in its study of a supposedly dysfunctional family finding its way, and with a typically fine performance from Mortensen (as well as turns from Frank Langella, Kathryn Hahn and British actor George MacKay), Captain Fantastic is garnering strong reviews from early festival screenings.
