After the Swedish mining company Boliden dumped 20,000 tonnes of toxic waste in the Chilean desert town of Arica, thousands of its citizens became sick, with many dying from cancer.

Arica plunges us into the groundbreaking corporate accountability trial which began after Lars Edman – born in Chile and raised in Boliden, birthplace of the company – exposed the scandal.

Alongside his co-director William Johansson Kalén, Arica picks up the story they first began in Toxic Playground, exposing how decisions made decades ago in Europe continue to affect people in South America. Part personal journey, part courtroom drama, Arica feels urgently necessary; a lean, effective, enlightening and extremely timely story about an afflicted community fighting for environmental justice against a multinational company desperate to clear its name.
