Based on real-life events, this tragic film from celebrated director Joachim Lafosse tells the harrowing tale of an unorthodox family living in Belgium. Murielle and Mounir excitedly announce their engagement to Mounir’s adoptive father Andre, and begin to start their family under his roof and watchful eye.
As the emotional and financial pressures of raising four children puts the couple under increasing strain, Andre becomes more and more controlling. Murielle struggles to stay afloat as the unhealthy three-way relationship becomes more intense – leading her ultimately to an unthinkable act.
Lafosse reunites A Prophet’s Tahar Rahim and Niels Arestrup, but the show is stolen by Emilie Dequenne whose performance earned her an Un Certain Regard Award for Best Actress at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival (where the film competed under the title Loving Without Reason).
