Directed by Christopher Menaul (Prime Suspect, The Forsyte Saga), with a screenplay written by Jonathan Smith based on his 1995 novel, Summer In February focuses on the wild and bohemian Lamorna Group, which was part of the Newlyn School of artists which flourished at the beginning of the 20th Century.
The incendiary anti-Modernist Munnings (Dominic Cooper), now regarded as one of Britain’s most sought-after artists, is at the centre of a complex love triangle, involving aspiring artist Florence Carter-Wood (Emily Browning) and Gilbert Evans (Downton Abbey’s Dan Stevens), the land agent in charge of the Lamorna Valley estate.
Based on true events, this intimate and enchanting story is played out against the picturesque beauty of the Cornish coast, in the approaching shadow of the First World War.
