One of Iceland’s most successful and prolific directors, Baltasar Kormákur (Jar City, 101 Reykjavík), is back with a tense drama inspired by true events.
In 1984, a fishing boat capsizes several miles off the south coast of Iceland. Gulli (Ólafur Darri Ólafsson) and his fellow seamen are left fighting for survival in the freezing cold waters. The film follows Gulli on his miraculous attempt to swim for safety in the battering and relentless ice-cold ocean.
Filmed without CGI, Kormákur captures spectacular sea scenes, “that rival the best work of James Cameron and Wolfgang Petersen” according to Jordan Mintzer, Hollywood Reporter.
Iceland’s official submission for the Best Foreign Language Film for the 2013 Oscars.
