Robin Campillo, writer of Laurent Cantet’s Palme d’Or winner The Class and creator of the acclaimed television series The Returned, directs this tense, erotically charged thriller about a young gay hustler in Paris.
Dapper fifty-something Daniel cruises the Gare du Nord in Paris where the eastern European boys hang out. One afternoon, he awkwardly propositions young immigrant Marek and invites him back to his place – but when the doorbell rings the next day Marek is not alone, and it seems Daniel has been targeted by a criminal gang who take advantage of his naivety.
But this doesn’t stop him from seeing Marek again, and as he learns more about how Marek’s world operates and becomes fonder of him, so his concern for this young man grows.
Cleverly juxtaposing different tonalities, Campillo layers a touching love story over a tense, nail-biting thriller whilst also observing some of the bleaker aspects of inter-EU immigration.
