The Academy award winning team of writer Anders Thomas Jensen and director Susanne Bier (Open Hearts, Brothers, After the Wedding) have re-united for this emotional drama centering on the relationship between a policeman and his wife.
Finding a neglected baby after a raid on a junkie’s flat has deep personal resonance for Andreas as he has just become a new father himself, and is struggling with sleep deprivation and the responsibility of a new life. His own domestic circumstances become increasingly entangled with the targets of the raid after a cataclysmic event, and his life begins to fall apart.
Bier is an accomplished director who makes films of real emotional resonance and here, once again, she coaxes performances of honesty and real depth out of her cast. The film is predicated on a series of plot twists which some may find convoluted, but there can be no doubting the raw power of her filmmaking.
