A playful, charming romantic comedy tinged with melancholy, Jérôme Bonnell’s (Just a Sigh, Le Chignon d’Olga) All About Them tells a very French story of youthful lust, love and sexual exploration.
Anaïs Demoustier (The New Girlfriend) plays Mélodie, a young criminal lawyer in Lille whose tenacious professional persona is at odds with her personal vulnerabilities. Secretly in love with the beautiful Charlotte (Sophie Verbeeck), she’s desperate for emotional commitment and physical affection, and finds herself unable to resist when Charlotte’s boyfriend Micha (Félix Moati) makes a soft-eyed play for her.
Soon, she’s more confused about her feelings than ever – but then so are Charlotte and Micha, who veer between committing to their relationship and falling ever more deeply for her. What’s undeniable is the fondness each of the trio feels for the others: and when matters come to a head, a surprising conclusion is reached.
Alongside elements of classic French farce, All About Them has a pleasing freshness and modernity and excellent, very natural performances from its three leads.
