From the director of Young Adam, this is a startlingly original, contemporary drama focusing on a young man and his journey to adulthood.
Jamie Bell stars as Hallam. Convinced his step-mother was responsible for his mother’s death, he spies on her and his father, searching for evidence to back up his theory and carving out a confused and solitary existence.
Simultaneously drawn to, and repelled by, his step-mother, he escapes to Edinburgh and a chaotic existence until he meets hotel manager Kate, who quickly becomes a new home for his pain and desire.
The stakes rise as Hallam becomes embroiled in Kate’s life and her own compulsions and build to a nervy climax. Jamie Bell once again shows a real maturity and a desire to take risks in his choice of roles and constantly engages, whilst Mackenzie’s direction is assured and ambitious.
