Brilliantly eccentric, this is a costume drama that never takes itself seriously. Subtle, funny and moving with some very fine acting thrown in for good measure, it is the perfect heart warming antidote to the doom and gloom of the credit crisis.
Set in London, with the memory of the Boer War still fresh in everybody’s minds, a dutiful and somewhat disillusioned son (Jeremy Northam), Fisk Jnr., visits his cantankerous father (a stunning performance by Peter O’Toole). After attending a lecture about reincarnation, Fisk Jnr. makes the acquaintance of Dean (as in, man of the cloth) Spanley who has a passion for the fine wine Tokay.
In fact after a couple of glasses the Dean not only acts like a dog but seems to think he IS a dog – is this just a case of drunken over indulgence or could this be real-life reincarnation? Fisk is determined to find out.
