Practical Information

Motovun Film Festival

Motovun Film Festival is one of Croatia’s leading cultural organisations, dedicated to championing innovative independent films, with a friendly and lively atmosphere. The festival runs for five days with evening outdoor screenings. The program consists of around 70 titles from all over the world, from documentaries to feature films, shorts to long forms, guerilla made films to co-productions. The only criteria is that films must fit in the open-minded atmosphere of the festival.

It was a stunning location and nice for us to be part of another festival for a few days. We were very well accommodated and felt very welcome.”

Travel and Location

Motovun is a medieval hilltop town with UNESCO heritage status, which offers a unique backdrop to the course and film festival. The beautiful, isolated location helps provide inspiration and provides focus for the course. The town has basic infrastructure and internet access is not always reliable, so please be prepared to go on retreat, focus on the course, spend time with peers from other film festivals and tell you colleagues you won’t be checking emails!

The nearest airports are Ljubljana, Pula and Trieste. There is limited transport to and from Motovun. We will arrange one pick up of participants from Ljubljana, Pula and Trieste airports on Tuesday 21 July and one drop off to each airport on Monday 27 July.

Please note that we will be based in Motovun for the duration of the course. You may wish to visit other parts of Croatia, including the beautiful coastline – if so, please plan extra time before or after the course dates.

Access

Being a medieval hilltop town, Motovun has uneven cobbled streets and uphill climbs. It is therefore not easily accessible for everyone. We have a disabled access fund for this course, so if you have any requirements please get in touch with us to discuss how we can help.
