First opened in 1911, the Electric Palace Cinema in Harwich is one of the oldest purpose-built cinemas in the UK to survive complete with its silent screen, original projection room and beautiful ornamental frontage still relatively intact.
Restored from the 1970s on, the Electric Palace received a boost around the millennium as Arts Council England funding was awarded, supporting general building refurbishments, improved accessibility features, and new sound and projection systems. It’s now a Grade II* listed building and a community fixture, screening a wide range of art house, independent, family films and world cinema to local audiences.
