Take a tour of some of the BFI National Archive’smore peculiar nooks and crannies.
With a new collection, What’s That Film?, launching soon on BFI Player, even more of the BFI Archive’s most curious curios will be available, some for the first time – from early appearances by the now-famous to strange fragments of film we know next-to-nothing about.
Squirm in your seat as seafood comes to life under the terrifying gaze of telly chef Fanny Cradock; be mesmerised as a fungal toenail is restored to health in glorious time-lapse photography; and discover the bonkers 1920s cinemagazine Hints and Hobbies – think Blue Peter for flappers – where among a myriad of invaluable tips one can learn how to souse herrings, control one’s road-rage and fashion a chic evening gown from a pair of curtains and an antimacassar.
We will be delighted to welcome Simon McCallum, Mediatheque Curator at the BFI National Archive to introduce this screening.
