Invited to a conference in Los Angeles, Boston academic Ashok (Roshan Seth) decides to go and pay a visit to his estranged son, Sid (Sendhil Ramamurthy), a disillusioned architect on the verge of divorce. Ashok’s visit begins a journey to mend their relationship until Sid discovers that his father has actually come in search of an old flame – and behind everything, both unifying and dividing the two men, is the memory of Sid’s mother, who died while he was young.
The feature debut of award-winning shorts filmmaker Mahesh Pailoor, Brahmin Bulls is both tender and astringent, with excellent performances from the two leads and the wider cast, including Academy Award-winner Mary Steenburgen, Justin Bartha, and Academy Award-nominated Michael Lerner. It’s an earnest and humorous exploration of generational struggles and the evolving relationship between a father and son, the women in their lives, and the secrets they keep.
