Open Submissions: Woman With A Movie Camera Summit 2025
British Film Institute
London
Salary: £250-600 (dependent on scale)
The BFI Woman with a Movie Camera Summit will return on 18 January 2025, inviting anyone passionate about cinema and moving image culture to participate in discussions around women in the industry.
An annual event, the summit programme is formed by over 20 talks, panels and playful events exploring film and television, focused on lending female and non-binary voices a chance to speak about the issues facing them in today’s workplace and culture.
We are currently inviting programmers and collectives to propose sessions for the 2025 edition of the summit. This is a paid opportunity to programme a panel, workshop or presentation on a specific topic relevant to women today. Previous summit discussions have ranged from the role of the intimacy coordinator on set to the impact of Beyoncé on moving image culture, and we welcome a diverse range of perspectives and interests.
Suggested topics we would love to platform at the summit include:
- stories around women’s contribution to cinema throughout history, including filmmakers, curators, critics etc
- profiles of female-led companies and organisations, or of fascinating women in film and television whose work feels of contemporary relevance
issues and challenges facing women in the film industry today, in production, exhibition, distribution and related media - discussions around contemporary cinema trends, and threads linking the work of women filmmakers working today
- spotlights on under-appreciated areas of filmmaking and film culture, platforming the work of inspiring women
- exploration of online trends and wider cultural movements related to cinema
We strongly welcome and encourage applicants from our under-represented groups who identify as deaf, disabled, and/or are Black and Global Majority. In line with the focus of the summit, we also strongly encourage submissions from women and non-binary people.
