Ciné Lumière / Institut français du Royaume-Uni is seeking a Part-Time Projectionist.
About the cinema
Ciné Lumière at the Institut français du Royaume-Uni is a cinema known for its curated programming, focusing on French, European, and world cinema.
Our two screening rooms accommodate up to 225 people in the main auditorium and 34 in the smaller cinema.
With 450 films and 2000 screenings annually, we offer a diverse range of films, including French premieres, art-house films, classics, Q&As, and special events.
About the role
Ciné Lumière / Institut français du Royaume-Uni is seeking a technically skilled and reliable Part-Time Projectionist to manage the technical aspects of its cinema screenings and support various cultural events.
This role primarily involves working during evenings and weekends, with an immediate need to cover every Tuesday from 2-11pm, although we are open to discussions regarding scheduling.
Key responsibilities
- Oversee all technical aspects of cinema screenings, ensuring a high-quality viewing experience
- Handle film print logistics, including receiving and returning films
- Operate digital cinema projectors, DCP servers, and other AV equipment
- Ingest DCPs, manage KDMs, and edit playlists
- Operate 35mm and 16mm projectors
- Set up and connect AV equipment, including laptops, sound mixing desks, microphones, and lighting
- Occasionally assist with the technical organisation of other cultural events, such as concerts, talks, and conferences.
Collaboration
- Work closely with front-of-house staff, particularly during evenings and weekends, to ensure smooth operations.
- Assist in maintaining high standards of customer service and resolving any issues promptly.
- Anticipate and prioritise tasks, reporting any disruptions to the appropriate personnel.
Security, health and safety
- Act as the general coordinator responsible for building evacuation in case of emergency.
- Ensure all internal rules and regulations are followed for the safety of staff and the public.
Qualifications and skills
- Technical knowledge and experience in cinema screenings and/or events.
- Proficiency in operating professional AV equipment.
- Experience in audience-facing roles.
- First Aid and Fire Marshal certification is a plus.
- Fluency in English; knowledge of French is advantageous.
- A degree in audiovisual, media, or cinema is an asset.
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Responsible, capable of managing priorities and stressful situations.
- Punctual, versatile, and autonomous with the ability to report effectively.
Applicants must be resident in the United Kingdom and be in possession of the right to work in the UK.
This is a fixed term (renewable) zero hour contract; start date ASAP.
Training will be provided to ensure you are fully prepared for the role.
The hourly rate is £15.25 plus 12.07% holiday entitlement and travel allowance.
