London Experimental is looking for 4x Volunteers to help deliver their 2024 event.

About London Experimental

Having started back in 2016, LE’s first event took place in a shipping container on the grounds of the University of East London. The festival was founded to be a platform with no programming, no competition and no prizes, screening in alternative locations and free for all to watch.

Now, staying strong to this ethos, London Experimental’s fourth edition will be taking place on Sunday the 21st of January at Peckham Arches. This new edition creates a space to celebrate international experimental cinema, featuring an international body of moving image films. The day will showcase an eclectic selection of experimental and moving image films; as well as a moving image installation in the private archways of Peckham Arches in South London.

About the role

The Festival Volunteers will contribute support to the on-the-day operations of the 2024 event. Mainly assisting the Festival Director and Events Producer with a range of tasks, including flyering, managing sign-ups & guestlists, ushering and invigilating. This year’s event is taking place in a 600-person venue, with three event spaces supporting an installation, two screening rooms, and a large outdoor terrace. The event will be free and open to all to attend. As the venue is situated in the archways next to Peckham Rye Station, one of the main duties of the volunteers will be to engage with the public, encouraging more visitors to attend the festival.

This is an unpaid role for individuals looking to gain experience in a festival or film environment. We will however refund your travel expenses (within London) and provide food on shift.

Hours: 6/7 hours (this is flexible)
Contract: Fixed-term (one day, Sunday 21 January 2024)
Location: In-person, Peckham, South London

Main responsibilities

• Providing on-the-day support to the events team
• Flyering and engaging with the general public
• Monitoring festival attendance
• Representing the festival and its values
• Coordinating Festival Guest Lists
• Ushering/Invidulating
• Collecting Feedback
• Assisting the festival director and events producer with any other tasks that arise

Person specification

Essential

• A basic understanding of cinema exhibition or events
• Confidence and ability to communicate well with others
• Ability to work collaboratively as a team
• Confidence in engaging with members of the public
• Interest and enthusiasm for cinema, curation or events production

Desirable

• A passion for experimental cinema
• Experience in attending, volunteering or working in a festival or events environment
• Interest in the role of audience engagement in film exhibition
