The Institut français du Royaume-Uni is looking to hire a Projectionist for the Ciné Lumière.
About the Ciné Lumière
The cinema has two screening rooms. It can host up to 225 people in its main auditorium and 34 people in its smaller cinema. Its curated programming mixes French, European and world cinema, with an emphasis French film premieres and exclusive screenings with the presence of filmmakers and talents, art-house films, film festivals, classics, Q&As and special events (320 films, 1000 screenings and over 60,000 visitors every year).
Duties
To be in charge of the technical and logistic aspects of cinema screenings:
- To take part in the film print traffic (receiving and sending back films);
- To operate digital cinema projectors and DCP servers;
- To ingest DCPs, KDMs and to edit playlists;
- To operate basic AV equipment (such as Blu-ray players, scalers, sound mixing desk, microphones, lighting equipment, computers…);
- To set up and connect basic technical equipment (such as laptops, microphones, lights…);
- To operate 35mm and 16mm projectors;
- To occasionally take part in the technical organisation of other cultural events of the Institute (performing arts, concerts, talks, conferences…).
Collaboration:
- To work in collaboration with the front staff, especially during evenings and weekends (sectorial attachés, events and logistics coordinator, box office staff and ushers);
- To help them to ensure high quality of customer service, and to find solutions when issues occur with customers;
- To anticipate and manage priorities, to solve or report to the right person any issues disturbing the smooth running of the activity.
Security, health and safety for the staff and the public:
- To be the general coordinator, responsible in case of evacuation of the building;
- To make sure that internal rules and regulations are respected.
Conditions
Under the authority of the Director, the employee will be directly responding to the Head of technical and digital media. He/she will coordinate his/her work with the Deputy Director, the Deputy Secretary General, the Cinema Programmer and the School Activities Manager.
Working times out of regular office hours and will happen mainly during evenings and weekends.
Regular shift:
- Friday 2pm–11pm and Sunday 10am-10pm every two weeks
- Or Saturday 10am-11pm and Sunday 10am-10pm every two weeks
- Or Sundays only 10am-10pm every two weeks

Skills and competencies
- Technical knowledge and experience as a projectionist;
- Experience using 35mm and 16mm projectors would be a big plus;
- Experience using professional AV equipment;
- Experience facing the audience;
- Team player;
- First Aid and fire marshal certificate preferable;
- Fluent in English; French would be a plus;
- Be responsible, able to manage priorities and stressful situations;
- Available, versatile, punctual;
- Autonomous;
- Ability to report.
