Borderlines Film Festival CIC is seeking application for members to join its Board of Directors.

Borderlines, Britain’s largest rural film festival, returned to its wide-ranging rural venues, including The Courtyard in Hereford, Malvern Theatres and the Flicks in the Sticks network of village halls and community centres, in March 2022.

The film festival has an enviable audience reach, peaking at over 23,000 attendances in 2020. Recognised by the British Film Institute as being of national significance, it screens a selection of the best new cinema from all over the world, including a strong line-up of previews, themed strands addressing contemporary issues, retrospectives, classic and archive films, silent films with live musical accompaniment and documentaries.

Borderlines is organised as a CIC or Community Interest Company – effectively a not-for-profit business with a social or community purpose. As such, it is run by a Board of directors who are all volunteers with a strong interest in supporting the festival and with a wide variety of backgrounds and experience. The Board is responsible for setting the strategic direction of Borderlines Film Festival in line with its objectives, ensuring its financial soundness and sustainability, and ensuring proper use of the funding it receives.

Borderlines Film Festival is now looking for new members who can bring an understanding of policy and governance, sponsorship and fundraising, and the recruitment and management of volunteers, and/or experience in exhibition, to its board of directors. We wish to widen our representation across the geographical region served by the festival, notably within the Malvern area where our audience is growing rapidly, and would particularly favour younger applicants to the Board.

Borderlines Film Festival’s aim is to become a truly inclusive organisation with a workforce and audience as diverse as the communities it serves. It welcomes applications from those who will bring a difference, recognising that contemporary arts and media can be a closed shop for many. If you are from a background that is underrepresented in the arts and cultural sector and you would like to apply to become a director, we encourage you to do so.
