Marketing and Administration Coordinator
Independent Cinema Office
London
Salary: £25,579 to £28,676 per annum
The Independent Cinema Office (ICO) is the national organisation for the support and development of the independent cinema exhibition sector in the UK.
We offer film programming services to cinemas, bring films into distribution and are the main provider of events, training and advice for the independent cinema sector. We work with the main funding bodies in film exhibition, are a company limited by guarantee and a registered charity.
Our film programming clients include cinemas as diverse as the Watershed in Bristol, Malvern Theatres in Worcestershire and Catford Mews in South East London. In 2020-21 we delivered a national film tour, Second Sight, exploring the legacy of the UK’s Black Film Workshop Movement with a series of award-winning artists’ commissions. The ICO also delivers Screening Days, a national and regional showcase for cultural cinema for film societies, community cinemas and cinemas; and runs a portfolio of national and internationally renowned training programmes for exhibitors.
The role
This is a unique opportunity to join a vibrant, creative team working on a diverse range of projects and an excellent chance for someone seeking to develop their career in marketing and administration for the independent cinema sector. One day you may be creating a social media campaign for our digital platform, The Cinema of Ideas, the next you may be researching venues for one of our international training courses and the next organising the delivery of preview films for our Screening Days events. We work with many different kinds of partners across the UK – cinemas, festivals, film societies; national bodies; distributors and education and training providers.
The ICO is a small arts organisation and the individual we are seeking must be a self-starter. You will be assisting busy marketing and event teams to deliver activities across all of our services. Needless to say, you must be a great communicator and planner and extremely organised, with exacting attention to detail.
In addition, we need someone with copy-writing skills, tech savvy, well versed in using digital platforms, great ideas, and who shares our passion for cultural cinema. You don’t have to have worked in the cultural or arts sector before, but must be able to demonstrate transferrable skills.
You must be proactive, able to use your own initiative to juggle a variety of tasks and be able to prioritise your own time, work to deadlines and contribute to the team.
In return, we can offer responsibility, opportunities for training and development and the chance to work with a friendly, creative team at the forefront of independent cinema exhibition in the UK. We provide access to a Health Matters Assistance Programme (HMAP) – a confidential information and counselling service for employees and to Occupational Health services; a dedicated HR consultant for staff support; access to a SMART Pensions scheme; annual train ticket loans; flexible working practices; flexibility around childcare hours/needs; invites to events and festivals, and other benefits.
Our offices are in London (near London Bridge). In line with our new hybrid working policy staff are able to work remotely for up to 50% of their time (you can work from the office more days if you prefer).
The post is being advertised for five days a week, working eight-hour days (including one hour for lunch) but we are open to it being delivered across fewer days.
Equality, diversity and inclusion
At the Independent Cinema Office, we are an equal opportunity employer, and we believe that a diverse workforce leads to an organisation that is more creative, innovative and gets better results. We want our workforce to represent the diversity of the people and communities in the UK and we want to see these reflected on our screens. We also want our workforce to be one where different experiences, expertise and perspectives are valued and where everyone is encouraged to grow and develop.
We particularly welcome applications from Black, Asian, ethnically diverse, and disabled candidates as they are underrepresented within the ICO.
Along with application form we also request you complete our Equality and Diversity monitoring information.
Completing this form will help us in monitoring our efforts towards achieving an inclusive and diverse workforce.
