Associate Producer
Watershed
Bristol
Salary: £5,000 (inclusive of tax and expenses)
Watershed is looking for an Associate Producer to support freelance creatives to develop their practice in creative community/climate activism further.
The Future is Collective is a new Watershed talent development programme that propels community and climate activism by offering support and development to freelance creatives.
About the role
As Associate Producer you will support and share your specialist knowledge with freelance creatives who urgently need it and who would otherwise struggle to access advice. This may include Pervasive Media Studio Residents, creatives associated with Rife Magazine, BFI NETWORK and Film Hub South West or individuals in Watershed’s wider network. Addressing underrepresentation in the creative and cultural sectors, we are particularly keen for this role to support projects led by South West-based people of African or Caribbean Heritage and those of East Asian, South Asian or South East Asian Heritage.
The creatives you support might be working on something new, or they may be working on old or current projects that stalled, or haven’t yet reached their full potential.
Part of your role, with support from Watershed, will be to help to identify who could benefit from Producing advice and determining how to distribute your time effectively.
We are particularly seeking applications from people that are underrepresented in the creative and culture sector (for example you are from a community that experiences racism, or you are a disabled person (as defined by the Equalities Act in 2010), or you did not go to University or you were eligible for free school meals as a child).
Applications are welcome from Producers not based in Bristol, though please note that the fee is inclusive of all expenses.
This role will work closest with the Talent Development and Pervasive Media Studio team within Watershed.
- Flat fee: £5,000 (inclusive of tax and expenses)
- Personal development bursary: £500
- Timeframe: 20 flexible days between March and July 2022
- Location: Pervasive Media Studio, Watershed (Bristol)

The Future is Collective
This opportunity is part of The Future is Collective, a new Watershed talent development programme made possible thanks to public funding from the National Lottery through Arts Council England. The programme will propel community and climate activism by offering support and development to freelance creatives. It will support editors and young creatives through Rife, plus creative practitioners through the Pervasive Media Studio and BFI NETWORK and Film Hub South West.
The programme aims to re-energise our devastated cultural ecology by offering professional development to creatives, whilst re-configuring networks and engaging audiences with new works. We believe supporting and nurturing freelancers at this critical time, is crucial to the future of the creative sector.
