Doc Society are looking for a BFI Doc Society Fund Executive to manage and lead the BFI Doc Society Fund and the associated support programme.

Main purpose of position

To manage and lead the BFI Doc Society Fund and the associated support programme, to place inclusion and creativity at the heart of UK documentary and to provide a robust platform for British documentary film making to flourish in the UK and on the global stage.

What’s the job’s core purpose?

  • To contribute towards the strategy of and articulate a clear vision for BFI Doc Society Fund.
  • To create, enable and support the strategic plan for the BFI Doc Society Fund ensuring alignment with Doc Society’s and BFI’s goals.
  • Contribute thought leadership to the documentary sector working groups to build and sustain a robust and sustainable future for documentary film in the UK.
  • Through short and feature funding, foster new forms, new content, new talent and fresh ideas to UK documentary making.
  • Oversee all aspects of the Film Fund including the application processes, assessment, shortlisting, decision making, grant allocation and team management.
  • Maintain overview of creative and business affairs progress on all funded projects across the slate.
  • Collaborate on providing practical advice and creative support to projects at critical stages
  • Ensure that the associated Support Programme is effectively supported and managed. Managing regional outreach events and Edit Lab to ensure their success. Ensuring that new filmmakers not connected with the industry are given routes in to the industry. Attending events to represent the fund.
  • Acting as the BFI’s day to day point of contact for running the Documentary Programme.
  • Liaising with Doc Society Directors on progress, challenges and strategic issues.
Knowledge, skills, experience

Essential

  • Knowledge of Doc Society’s mission and work and enthusiasm for independent documentary film
  • Highly proactive and organised, able to manage and prioritise a busy workload and stakeholders to deadline with consistent quality
  • Team player, establishes good working relationships and works confidently with more and less experienced colleagues
  • Meaningful experience in similar roles at a comparable sized organisation
  • You will have a desire to amplify the voices of the people we support and have demonstrable experience of having done this previously.
Terms
  • Optional office working at 180 Strand
  • 28 days including bank holidays and extra days on top between Christmas and New Year when we close the office
  • Employer pension contribution after 3 months
  • The role runs to the end of Doc Society’s delegation, March 2023.
Location

Position can be based from home or our London offices. If home based, will require occasional travel to those offices.

Salary
  • From £60K depending on experience
  • Probationary period: 6 months (with 3 months mid-point review)
