- As we speak, we’re at the BFI Southbank for Archive Screening Day, our one-day event devoted to showcasing films from international, national and regional archives. It’s not just about the films though – we’re also hosting a range of amazing talks and workshops to help fuel people’s cinematic inspiration!
- Last month saw the launch of our BFI Comedy Genius tour, a collection of twelve titles that will be screening across the breadth of the UK until the end of January next year. So do make sure to get in touch with us if you want to pay homage to cinematic legend Buster Keaton with a screening of The General, or host a movie and noodle’s night with Juzo Itami’s hilarious Tampopo.

Just some of the words that we’ve been throwing around the office to describe our new trailer for our new tour (in partnership with Studiocanal) of four films by Margarethe von Trotta, The Personal is Political. - To further support the tour, we’ve commissioned some exciting new writing on the influence and importance of von Trotta’s films from a range of academics, curators and writers across different generations. See our microsite of these pieces to date here.
Opportunities
- Filmmakers, you have just under a month until the early bird deadline to submit to the Open City Documentary Festival! Make sure to send in your short, mid or feature length non-fictions films, short audio documentaries and cross media projects by 21st December to take advantage of the earlier deadline.
- After a year of disputes and troubles dating back to the beast from the east, Cell B, the first cinema in Blaenau Ffestiniog since the 1950s, needs your help to survive. Any support that you can provide will be greatly appreciated.
- If you want valuable festival experiences, applications are still open for London Short Film Festival (LSFF) volunteer roles, which will include Ushering, Event Runners, Photography and more. Make sure to be quick though – the deadline for applications is tomorrow.

- There’s still funding available from Film Hub Midlands to support screenings of films from the BFI Comedy Genius tour. Head on over to their page to apply.
- FLAMIN Productions, part of Film London Artists’ Moving Image Network (FLAMIN), aims to support the most exciting, innovative and challenging moving image projects. Applications are still open for their production funding, but you only have till 5th December.
