Programme Manager

Alchemy Film & Arts

Hawick

Salary: £26,000

Alchemy was established with a core ambition of celebrating the most creative, innovative and thought-provoking experimental film and moving image; of reaching and engaging with both national and international makers and creators and bringing their work to the attention of the widest possible audience; and to work for the benefit of our community in the Scottish Borders. This is our vision. It drives us in everything we do.

Since we started in 2009, we have programmed work of the highest international calibre, establishing a strong reputation for artistic integrity with our annual film festival and other projects. We are committed to our distinctive sense of place and have been active in working with a range of groups in our community, creating filmmaking workshops, residencies, using disused spaces in the town for installations, and encouraging creative learning and participation at many levels. Participation, inclusiveness, openness and warmth are key values that underpin our activities.

Alchemy has recently been awarded three year funding by Creative Scotland to deliver the next three editions of Alchemy Film & Moving Image Festival, alongside a year-round exhibition programme, local filmmaking workshops, film commissioning, residency programme and touring. Alchemy is the first Scottish Borders based organisation to become a Regularly Funded Organisation (RFO), and one of four screen organisations across Scotland to be awarded. In 2017, Alchemy Film & Arts curated Scotland’s national exhibition at the Venice Art Biennale, presenting a major new film commission by the artist Rachel Maclean.

The Role – Programme Manager

This is an exceptional opportunity to play a key role in the development of our organisation, in the hands-on delivery of our creative and artistic programme, and development of our community engagement activities. Reporting to the Creative Director, this role involves planning and managing the delivery of a range of activities, with a particular focus on our exhibitions programme, volunteering and community filmmaking workshops, while supporting overall organisational development.

This role will effectively translate the business plan objectives for our annual exhibition programme and community film and engagement vision into workable project plans. You will get involved with researching and applying for funding and will be directly responsible for defining the project plan and the successful delivery of stated outcomes and results within budget. This role will be expected to prepare regular evaluation and progress reports.

This role will engage with and establish appropriate working partnerships across the community and be the focal point for the creation of effective and successful working partnerships with community groups that can connect us with those we wish to engage in the arts.

You will be responsible for defining and delivering strategies that will ensure we stay connected with our artists, audience groups and volunteers and that we keep these groups informed, engaged and active.
